Cinemobile visits Newcastle

Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Open Evening.
On the 5th of February 2008, past pupils of this school, Newcastle N.S., came to the school. They brought in old photos and talked about their time in the school and who was in their class and what school was like back then. Brendan Smith came and told us how to use scanners and video recorders. It was very easy. A lot of people came and told us information about the photos they brought in. We scanned about 165 photos.

Puppet Show Visits Newcastle

Last week there was a puppet show at our school. It was in our community centre. It was about the environment. It had lots of animals in it. They told us about the food chain in the water. They also told us about ducks, fish, plankton and the sun. They told us that the ducks eat the fish, the fish eat the plankton and the plankton eat the plant plankton and the plant plankton eat nothing! They do get energy from the sun. There are also invasive species in these rivers and lakes and they are called zebra mussels. First of all invasive species are species from foreign countries. Zebra mussels are from Russia and they can be dangerous. They kill lots of other freshwater species like mussels, fish and plankton. Sometimes they can be dangerous to humans and they can even contaminate water! An adult zebra mussel can filter one litre of fresh water every day. Zebra mussels can even give you diseases, for instance if you got into a bath and a zebra mussel is in the bath and you got cut by one you might even die.

Snow !!

One morning it started to snow.
We were playing outside at break.
In the snow we made snowmen and we had a snowball fight.
We had good fun.
